Teacher Feature
One of our new instructors this year in Jamie Larowitz Sherman. She is currently teaching our advanced tap class.
Jamie has been performing as a tap dancers for more than fifteen years. , in the 80's as part of the New York City based Peggy Spina tap Company and more recently in and around Boston as a soloist and collaborator. Credits include ensemble work in Tapestry '99 and Tapestry '98 at Lexington's Museum of our National Heritage, several engagements as guest artist/choreographer with modern dancers Beth Soll & Company, and solo improvising in New York's Swing 46 Tap jam with Buster Brown, and in Bob Thomas' local ongoing show "Jazz on Tap"
A native New Yorker, she has studied with many of the first generation Tap masters. Her classes stress clean technique, musicality, and include traditional material as well as encourage students to experiment with improvisation. Ms. Sherman served on the board of directors of the Leon Collins Dance Studio, Inc., a not-for-profit focusing on Jazz Tap dance education, and currently sits on the advisory board of the Cambridge Corale.
